I.Tutorials
1.Smooth PreLoader
Intro
This tutorial will show you how to make a smooth preloader for your site. This method does away with the old “ifFrameLoaded” method which led to jerky preloaders such as this one:
preloader2.swf
After you have finished this tutorial you will end up with something like this:
preloader.swf
2.Advanced Preloader
This tutorial will show you how to create on a very simple and effective way, advanced preloader using the Action Script. You will also learn how to create percent for preloader, how to use instance name, how to apply action script code on preloader using the action script panel and more.
3.Star flash preloader
Using this lesson, you will see how to create star flash preloader using the action script code. To make this lesson, we have to use mask in flash. Let’s go!
4.AS3 Tutorial - Bitmap Based Preloader
Our resident Senior Flash developer, Kingston, has written a detailed tutorial on how to create a preloader while also applying knowledge of BitmapData and Tween classes. Kingston has taught Flash at various technical institutes so he understands how to transfer his knowledge in a way that’s easy to understand.
5.[Photoshop] Tech Preload Interface
Learn how to make a cool interface for something like a flash preloader.
Note that this is an advanced tutorial, if you’re new to photoshop you probably won’t be able to completely follow this tutorial.
6.How to make a complete Flash website navigation system with a built-in preloader for external content
In this thoroughly explained, detailed lesson made for Flash 8, I will show you how to create a really cool, complete Flash website navigation and loading system. The menu that you will make has a built-in animated preloader. You will learn:
- How to design a menu with a built-in preloader (a numerical one),
- How to create a preloader animation behind the menu buttons,
- How to create stylish menu buttons,
- How to make ActionScript code that will enable the preloading of external Flash (SWF) content
- How to make a main preloader for the menu system and much more.
This Flash menu/preloader system works seamlessly in the following browsers on a Windows machine: Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 6 and Opera 9. I have yet to test it on a Mac, but I suppose it will work perfectly there too.
7.Preloaders and Simulating the Download
In my most recent Flash / AS3 tutorial, I write about the always-interesting topic of preloaders. One of the challenges with creating preloaders is not just getting them to work, but actually proving to yourself that they work. That is actually a problem that you face in testing anything that requires simulating an active internet connection.
8.Flash CS3 Tutorial - ActionScript 3 Preloader
There is very little that will push users away quicker than a bulky Flash website with no preloader. Without a preloader, your users will have nothing to look at but a blank screen until your Flash file has fully loaded. For users with a speedy broadband connection, this may not be much of an issue (depending on the size of your file), but for people with sluggish connections, it’s imperative that you give them some kind of indication that everything is loading properly.
9.Making a Cooler Preloader in Flex: Part 1 of 3
Introduction
Flex’ built in preloader is pretty sweet. It auto-adjusts for your application’s color to stand out, it handles all aspects of preloading. This includes remote shared libraries, fonts, and even deferred classes used in modules. Finally, it deals with the initialization of your Flex application which can possibly take longer than a few milliseconds.
If you are building branded applications, every little detail counts in enforcing your brand identity upon your user. You want to remind them the positive experience they are having was brought to them by you. Nothing is more important than a first impression, and the first thing people see in a Flex application is the preloader. It is important that you spend adequate time on making it look good and consistent.
To make a custom preloader for Flex, you have to do 2 steps:
- Write a class that extends DownloadProgressBar
- Set the preloader property on your Application class to your preloader class.
10.Simple AS3 Preloader Tutorial
Preloaders are a big part of flash sites, just look around the internet today at some flash sites and you’ll see some really creative ideas. Although I am surprised some of these creative preloaders don’t need a preloader to load themselves as their is so much animation going on! Not that I am complaining, I think they are excellent and really enhance the flash experience.
Not so creative In this Preloader unfortunately but good enough to get the job done I think. So in this tutorial I’ll show you how to create a very basic preloader using Flash CS3 and Actionscript 3. So lets open up flash and get started!
11.AS3 Preloader With MochiAd, MochiBot, Simple Domain Locking and Glossy Vista Style Progress Bar
As promised in my last blog entry, heres my version of an AS3 preloader. It’s the second time i’ve typed this out, as the first time i had lost my cookies while messing around in another firefox window and when i came to post this entry it just said access denied and it had all gone! Lovely! Anyway the main points of my preloader are
- MochiAds & MochiBot already integrated
- Simple domain site locking implemented
- Nice glossy style progress bar
- Reusable code, not integrated heavily into a project
- Easy to add to existing AS3 project
- Pure AS3 classes
- Works with FlashDevelop or Flex Builder
- Minimal Delays, fairly small size
12.Preloaders in AS3
[Note, although this post is right now over a year and a half old, it continues to be one of the most visited pages on my site. If you are just showing up here now, you should note that the data here is a bit dated and may not work exactly as described in the current version of the Flex SDK. In fact, I am pretty sure it DOESN'T work as described anymore. Feel free to read through this for some overall info, but check all the comments as well, which may have more info or links to more up-to-date data. I haven't had to deal with this situation since I first wrote this, so don't have the current method for making AS3 preloaders to hand.]
13.Creating a Flash Preloader
This tutorial will teach you how to create a very simple preloader for your Flash movies using ActionScript 3.0. A preloader is an essential asset in every single Flash movie you put on the internet as it prevents the movie from playing before downloading all its assets and also informs the user about how long he is expected to wait before the downloading process finishes. This tutorial will not require you to have any special ActionScript 3.0 knowledge and will make use of the LoaderInfo class to retrieve downloading data.
